The Magick of Fascia

Fascia is the glue that binds us together and creates synchronicity within the whole system.

From muscles to organs to lymphatics and neurology - fascia is the most untapped gateway that can lead to better health and longevity.

Whether it is through ART (Active Release Technique), MRT (myofascial release technique), IASTM (instrument assisted soft-tissue mobilization), RockTape (kinesiology tape), or neuromuscular reeducation (rehab), St.Thomas Chiropractic can help you repair and rebuild from injuries to get back into a functional and pain-free state.

"The power of healing is inevitable if we have the right ingredients. The only question is how to tailor those ingredients to match the individual."

How we improve your fascia

Fascia is dynamic, so the techniques that improve it should be too. The synergy of several techniques helps to promote the ideal level of health for your body. When you improve your physical health, mental health often follows. So - if you want to live better, feel better and move better -
take care of your fascia!

Instrument Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

This technique is different for every practitioner based on their training.
Dr. St.Thomas has developed his own, personalized system to enhance efficacy - without unnecessary discomfort. This directly impacts your ability to move better with less pain, and it happens in real-time.

RockTape
(aka "kinesio tape")

When you understand the myofascial system through neurology, you can tap into the incredible potential of the human brain - ergo the mind-body connection.
With the power of a simple advent, you can change the way you move and gain more function with less pain. This literally changes how your brain connects to your body.

Active Release Technique (A.R.T)

Utilizing specific pressure onto specific areas of tension, the patient moves through simple ranges of motion while the doctor release the adhesion within muscles and fascia. This changes the confidence within the muscles and allows the patient to move better. This happens quickly and can completely change how well you activate muscles.

FAQ's

Q: Is it really magic?
A: No, it is science. We are on a frontier of knowledge regarding the human body and how some of the basic concepts (function and structure) have been overlooked for many years. Once we incorporate and acknowledge the elements that are directly in front of us and truly understand them, a whole world of healing opens up. It appears "magical" (I am quoting many patients I've worked with over the years) because it is not well understood or explained in the mainstream. Thus, the conversation regarding fascia is often downplayed and discounted - when in reality, it should be the first line of defense against aches, pains and dysfunction.

Q: Why haven't I heard of this before?
A: Fascia is still not thoroughly taught the way it should be in schools. I have a doctorate and have spent hours upon hours in dissection lab, and it wasn't until taking an advanced cadaver class that I learned the importance of fascia. That was after 2 years of fully dissecting bodies, it was never properly addressed. So even at the higher levels of education there are gaps in the education of how important fascia is when it comes to physical, functional and even emotional health.

Q: Can you get treatment for making your fascia healthier?
A: Yes! That is largely what I work on with people every single day. It's not just one thing, rather it is an amalgam of the right ingredients for each individual. However, having someone that understands how the body is connected is the best gateway you can enter to finding better movement, better health and maximizing your ability for the best quality of life.
