headaches

Headaches are a pain, so let's fix that!

St.Thomas Chiropractic can help you devise a plan to help you
manage, reduce and eventually eliminate the dreaded headache.

Certain types of headaches respond favorably to chiropractic, myofascial work and neurofascial enhancement. In addition, you will learn different postural tricks, daily stretches and simple strategies that can help you feel better and prevent recurrence.

Cervicogenic Headache

Cervicogenic essentially means, "from the neck."

Defined as a "secondary" headache because the pain in this case is referred. That means the spine and soft tissues surrounding the neck are generating signals that are perceived by the brain as "my head hurts."

This is in contrast to a "primary" headache, such as a migraine, where the signals for the pain are actually being generated from within the nerves of the head.

What Contributes to Headaches?

The Tech Effect

Picture

The advent of technology has forever impacted our daily lives.

Once fixed on the horizon, now our eyes are constantly looking down at a screen of some sort.

The effects of this may not be immediate, but prolonged use of phone, computers, laptops, etc places a great deal of stress on our bodies. For instance, every time your head is shifted in front of your shoulders, the amount of pressure on your neck doubles! That means looking down at your phone can place up to 60 pounds of pressure on the lower part of your neck and predispose you to disc herniations.

What about Posture?

Posture throughout your day plays a direct role in how much your neck will bother you and more than likely, how many headaches you will experience on a regular basis. Our bodies are designed to be upright, walking around and moving from once place to the next.

However, what happens when sitting, slouching and sedentary behavior become the norm? This is why it's so important to ensure that you are doing your best to avoid looking down, all day long.

Fortunately, St.Thomas Chiropractic offers realistic and adaptable solutions that you can incorporate into your day. The best part about that is that once you have learned these tricks and techniques, they can go with you wherever you go!

Perfect Posture involves Movement! (PPIM)

Picture
Here is an acronym to remember! PPIM is a simple way of saying that we are not designed to sit as a desk all day long and stare at a computer.

Instead, we must realize that sitting and slouching are
the ultimate accelerators for aging.

The more you sit and collapse your thoracic cage (your
upper back and ribs) the more you will begin to feel
the effects of aging - regardless of how old you actually
are - so join the movement to move and practice
improving your posture   interrupting your sitting
through the day. Your back and body will thank you for it!"
