Regenerative Medicine is Here...
Shockwave Therapy is an innovative solution that is non-invasive and effective for treating chronic soft tissue injuries
Ever wish you could just order a new tendon off of Amazon? Well, here’s the next best thing!
Shockwave Therapy is a unique treatment that falls within the scope of regenerative medicine. It serves to remodel the musculoskeletal architecture and allow for inflamed tissues to find a resolve that enables return to functionality for dozens of stubborn MSK conditions.
Below are common soft tissue conditions we treat often at St.Thomas Chiropractic:
Here’s the reality when it comes to our bodies – we are in a constant state of modeling and remodeling. Every 10 years, we have a brand new skeleton! That incredible fact is reflective of the perpetual process of regeneration that our bodies are trying to perform so that it can keep us going. When we break down faster than we repair, this is the definition of the chronic injury cycle – many of these are common characteristics of soft tissue injuries, as well as bone injuries (i.e. stress fracture, stress reactions, bone edema) that can be found on MRI’s, even when there are no “pain” symptoms in that area.

THE OBVIOUS & THE INSIDIOUS
There are two main categories of injuries that people experience; the obvious and the insidious.
The obvious injuries are the ones that happen with something such as a fall, a collision, pulling a muscle mid stride, feeling something “pop” during a workout, etc. They’re obvious because patients can describe the exact moment that the injury occurred. This accounts for about 30% of all injuries.
The remaining 70% of all musculoskeletal injuries occur from the insidious onset that patients will be unable to describe an “injury moment” that was responsible for starting the symptoms. That is because the subtle, insidious factors such as repetitive stress to soft tissues (i.e. working out with improper form and not realizing it), postural stress (sitting at a desk 8+ hours per day), occur on such a low-grade level that these problems go under the radar for months/years. When these changes occur slowly over time, our bodies literally “learn” how to be dysfunctional. That is why even though you know what you want to happen in your mind, the architecture of your body has become warped and can no longer perform in a way that promotes healthy movement and proper repair. When your body breaks down faster than it recovers, then you end up operating in a state where the normal healing processes in your body are incomplete.
Shockwave helps reintroduce proper healing cycles and regulate the amount of demolition and construction occurring in our bodies. This gives you back the architecture you need to be able regenerate healthy tissue and prevent injury in the future.
“If you want to be able to train, compete and stay in the best shape possible, then you must master the art of recovery.” - Dr. St.Thomas
Another way to help understand how Shockwave can change your ability to function and feel better than ever is the following:
Imagine you are in a 10 story building… each floor has 8 foot ceilings so that we are able to comfortably move around and function without feeling smothered. ..
..Now imagine that we compressed the building so that it is equivalent to the height of a 5 story building. What happens to the comfortability of being able to walk around and function? Standing up straight is no longer an option because the ceilings are only 4 feet! The space above us has been cut in half and consequently, we are not going to be as efficient at our jobs, nor we will be in a good mood about this new architectural alteration.
This is the gradual and subtle process that occurs in many people and the interesting thing is, it happens most often with postural stresses. In other words, sitting at a desk for 10 hours a day… for a couple years in a row... that would be one extremely common reason to explain how injuries to soft tissues (most commonly tendonitis, fasciitis) can be ostensibly created out of nowhere.

- Spinal Tendonitis
- Myofascial adhesions (repetitive stress injuries)
- Adaptively shortened muscle fibers (chronic scar formation)
- Epidural fibrosis from post spinal surgery
